Prom Movie

Ok, this movie looks absolutely awful.  I'll admit that I am not exactly the biggest fan of teenage movies.  However, this particular movie seems like it is going to be especially bad.  I have not seen or heard much about it, but the trailer itself makes me think that this is not a movie I would like to go see.  I'm sure there are many teenage girls out there who will think that this movie will be a great romantic comedy for young people.  They may be right, but the creators of this movie are not helping themselves by putting together such a cheesy trailer; it has all the cliches in the book; it seems like pretty much every other high school movie.  Check it out for yourselves!

  1. I COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AGREE. I saw this trailer in a preview for another movie I was seeing and my mouth dropped to the floor. This has to be a joke...right? Maybe it's just me but no one cares about prom to this extent, and the slightest idea to make a movie about it is nauseating. Cast attractive people, add some popular tunes, create a plot that most high-schoolers are familiar with (aka prom), and tada! you've got yourself a movie. Are we running out of ideas in the movie industry or do the directors sincerely believe this will attract young audiences enough to make a profit? I agree that it has “all the clichés in the book”, however I may have to point out that most teenage movies weren’t this corny back “in the day”. Call me ignorant since I am no longer a teen and not entirely sure what meets the teen audience requirements, but this trailer seems extremely immature and not even worthy for a teen to waste his or her time or money on. However, it is hitting theaters rather than straight to DVD so I guess they’re doing something right.

  2. As a filmmaker, sometimes I wonder how these type of films get made. These teenage romantic comedies belong on the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon or something, but not in theaters. What was that other one that came out recently that didn’t do well? Beastly? These films are tailored to teenagers, I couldn’t imagine being a teenager and seeing this film. Heck, I’d rather see Prom Night, which shares the title, but takes a more interesting spin on the already played-out high school theme. The last great high school comedy I saw was Easy A, before that probably Juno, which obviously had good writing and acting. I love Emma Stone. I don’t think this film will fare well in the theaters, especially with Rio leading the box office for the second week in a row.

  3. After watching this trailer, I can tell that this movie will be pretty awful. The name of the movie alone, Prom, is terrible! No creativity whatsoever. I do admit that I love good romantic comedies, but I have learned that any "teenage" movie attempted by Disney is going to be really bad, and not even close to a romantic comedy. Teen Disney movies turn out more to be poorly written, poorly acted, and cheesy long-form tv shows that shouldn't be in theaters. And the subject, prom, is so overdone in the film industry. What could there be in this prom movie that we can't already predict? The only audience for this movie will probably be young Disney-loving girls that aren't old enough to be in high school yet.

  4. Usually films like this rely on big name stars that are popular in the target age group. For example, Beastly, although obviously awful, has Vanessa Hudgens who has a really huge solid fan base. So making that film at least had some guaranteed ticket sales. However, what's interesting about Prom is there aren't really any big stars.

The main blonde girl who seems to be in charge of putting on the Prom is actress Amy Teegarden who actually a really great actress. She is one of the main characters on Friday Night Lights which is a great drama going strong into it's fifth season. It's a little disappointing to see her breaking into film in such a shallow roll when she's capable of some good dramatic acting. also fans of Friday Night Lights aren't exactly going to go see this.
